Every washer shakes a little when the drum reaches spin speed, and it relies on its feet, its springs and its shocks or dampers to keep that motion inside the cabinet. When a washer jumps or walks, one of three things is usually off: the load is unbalanced, the washer is not level and firm on the floor, or the parts that hold the tub steady are worn. A washer that only shakes with some loads points to the laundry; one that shakes with every load points to the machine or the floor.

Is some shaking during the spin normal?
A little is. Every washer moves as it speeds up, and a light hum through the floor is common. Loud banging, a washer that moves on the floor, or shaking that grows with each load is not.
My stacked washer and dryer shakes. Is that riskier?
It can be. A stack puts weight high up, and a washer that walks can loosen the stacking kit. Keep the washer level and have the suspension checked if the shaking persists.
Do anti-vibration pads help?
They can soften noise on a firm floor, but they do not fix worn shocks or a washer that is not level. Fix those first and pads become a small extra.
Why does my washer shake more on the second floor?
Wood floor framing flexes more than a concrete slab, and the washer's motion travels into it. Leveling and firm feet matter more there, and worn dampers show up sooner.
