What the washer diagnostic visit
involves.
A washer diagnostic visit starts by running a short cycle and watching each stage in order: the fill, the wash motion, the drain and the spin. Most washer complaints stop at one of those four stages, and knowing which one narrows the list of parts to a handful. The technician checks the water valves, the hoses, the drain route and the level of the machine before opening the cabinet, then reads any stored codes and tests the suspect parts with a meter. The result is one failed part named and priced, or a plain word that the washer is not worth fixing.

Name the part that failed and its price, and say so plainly if a worn bearing, a cracked tub or the washer's age makes the repair poor value.
Run a short cycle and note the stage where it stops: filling, washing, draining or spinning.
Check the outside first: the water valves, the fill hoses and their screens, the drain hose and standpipe, and whether the washer stands level.
Read the stored error codes or run the model's service test to see what the control has recorded.
Test the suspect parts, such as the pump, the inlet valve, the lock or lid switch, the motor and the sensors, with a meter rather than by swapping them.
