GE washers,

GE sells top-load and front-load washers, and its electronic-control models from 2017 on use a Consumer Help Indicator that scrolls a message or short code with a simple fix. Several of those messages start a four-minute lockout, which is easy to mistake for a dead control panel.

GE's range covers top-load washers such as the GTW720 to GTW845 and front-load washers such as the GFW350 to GFW850. Top-loaders and front-loaders show different messages and have different drain and lock designs, so the model decides the checks.
Messages come with a lockout
When H2O SUPPLY or CAnCELEd scrolls, the controls stop responding for four minutes, and unplugging only restarts the timer. Waiting it out is the first step, not a sign the board has failed.
Top-loaders never spin with the lid up
GE top-loaders stop spinning when the lid is raised and show dE or E2, and some pause up to three minutes between stages. A washer that seems stuck before spin is often just waiting.
Most front-loaders have a front pump filter
The pump filter on most GE front-loaders is behind a door at the bottom front, and the owner's manual explains how to clean it. Models without that access need a technician to reach the filter.
The drain hose clip matters
GE ships a drain hose clip, also called an anti-siphon clip, for the standpipe. A hose pushed too far down or taped in place can siphon water out and stop a cycle.
Parts
Lid switches, pumps, inlet valves and control boards for recent GE washers are commonly stocked. Older Hydrowave top-loaders from roughly 2011 to 2015 may need parts ordered.
Repair or replace
Pump, valve, switch and control repairs on a GE are generally worth doing. A leaking tub or worn bearings on an older machine make a replacement worth considering.
