Miele's US help pages cover its front-load washers and washer-dryers, and some pages also mention top-loading models. Some models take a separate hot water connection with its own code, F15.
A low limit on drain height
Miele caps the drain hose delivery head at 3 feet 3 inches (1 meter). A washer piped into a high standpipe can show F11 with nothing wrong inside it.
Two drain filters, each on its side
Miele washers have more than one drain filter behind the front access panel, and each must go back on its own side and be screwed tight. A loose or swapped filter is a leak waiting to happen.
A faucet flow test
Miele sets a simple benchmark for the water supply: at least 5 liters from the open faucet in 15 seconds. Below that, F10 or F15 is a plumbing matter, not a washer repair.
It waits for its own heat
Miele washers heat their own water, and a Thermostop pauses the timer until the set temperature is reached. A long pause is the washer working; a heating code after it is not.
Parts
Miele parts are ordered by the model and serial number on the rating plate; drain pumps and door locks are the common items, while electronics may take longer. The plate is read before anything is specified.
Repair or replace
Miele washers are built for long service lives, so a single part such as a pump, lock or sensor is almost always worth replacing. Replacement only makes sense when the drive and the electronics fail together on an older machine.
