Maytag's washer help is split into top-load models, some with Pet Pro and a built-in faucet, and front-load models. A top-loader's lid lock and agitator and a front-loader's door lock and pump are serviced differently, so the type is the first thing to confirm.
The Pet Pro filter sits in the agitator
On Pet Pro models the hair filter has to be installed in the agitator during the cycle to catch anything, and it works best with the Pet Pro option turned on. It also traps lint and debris, so a full filter is worth checking when loads come out linty.
Weight on the lid keeps it locked
A Maytag top-loader that senses objects on its lid will not unlock and shows dU. A laundry basket parked on top is enough, so clearing the lid comes before any lock repair.
Small items can reach the pump
Maytag warns that small items can get caught in the pump or between the basket and the tub and slow the drain. Mesh bags for socks and emptied pockets prevent a share of drain visits.
A paused front-loader winds down slowly
After a pause or a cancel, a Maytag front-loader can take 20 to 30 minutes to stop spinning and drain, and it shows Int the whole time. Waiting it out is part of the routine, not a sign of trouble.

Repair or replace
