What E42
actually means.
E42 means the washer cannot confirm that the door lock engaged. The checks are the same as for a closed door, and once the door is clear, the latch and striker are the parts to suspect.

The control cannot confirm that the door or lid is locked, or cannot release it. A latch that does not reach the lock, a bent strike or water still in the tub is looked at before the lock assembly.
