Look at where the drain hose enters the standpipe: no more than about 4.5 inches of hose should be inside it, and it should not be taped in place. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Why did F9 E1 start right after my Whirlpool was moved or reinstalled? A move is a common time for the drain hose to slip too deep into the standpipe or get pinched against the wall. Pull the machine out, reset the hose so only a short length sits in the pipe, and try a Drain & Spin before anything else. ### Does F9 E1 on a Whirlpool always mean the drain pump is bad? No. Whirlpool's own checklist is all about the hose, the standpipe and, on front-loaders, the filter.
