The range covers agitator, impeller and 2-in-1 top-loaders, front-loaders and stacked laundry towers, and an all-in-one washer and dryer. Top-loaders and front-loaders lock, drain and report codes differently, so the type on the rating plate decides what gets checked first. ### The agitator can come out On 2-in-1 top-loaders the agitator stays in for everyday mixed loads that need more scrubbing and comes out, turning the washer into an impeller model, when bedding or delicates need room. When a load comes out tangled or poorly cleaned, the first question is which mode it was washed in. ### Both fill hoses have to carry water Whirlpool asks for the hot and the cold hoses to be connected and turned on, and the washer checks for water on both inlets. A closed hot valve on a household that washes cold can still end in the F8 E1 long-fill code. ### Front-loaders arrive with shipping bolts Four bolts and plastic spacers hold the drum still for delivery and must come out of the back before the first load. Left in, they cause noise, shaking and codes such as F7 E1, which looks like a motor problem and is not. ### The drain hose depth sets two codes The drain hose should sit no more than about 4.5 inches inside a standpipe that is at least 39 inches tall. Pushed deeper, or run into a pipe that is too short, the hose siphons water away, and Whirlpool links that to both long-fill and long-drain codes. Parts Pumps, inlet valves, lid and door locks and control boards for current Whirlpool top-loaders and front-loaders are usually easy to source. Laundry towers and the all-in-one model use more specific parts, which can mean an order after the first visit. Repair or replace Most Whirlpool washer calls end with a drain, fill, lock or sensor repair, and those are worth doing on a cabinet and tub in good shape. No. Whirlpool suggests leaving it in for daily mixed loads that need more mechanical action and taking it out for bulky items like bedding or for delicate pieces. Either mode can be used any time. ### What happens if I forget the built-in faucet running on my Whirlpool top-loader? The faucet shuts itself off, and if the water gets too high the washer drains it. With the lid left open the tub also drains after 10 minutes, and water left in a closed tub is pumped out after 3 hours. ### Does my Whirlpool front-loader have a drain filter I can clean? Some models do, behind the bottom dispenser drawer, and Whirlpool suggests cleaning it now and then.
